Take It Upon Yourself To Disease Proof Your Body

Having a chronic disease can rob you of everything precious in your life – your strength, your mind, your energy, your independence, your money, your future and eventually your dignity. If you are unlucky enough to be one of every two people in the world who will get a chronic ‘lifestyle’ disease it will likely leave you as helpless as a new born baby as it slowly but surely sucks the life-force from you.

Yet it does not have to be like this. The World Health Organization states that 80 percent of all chronic disease is preventable. Killers like heart disease, cancer and diabetes and dozens of others are conditions we give ourselves.

This means when we give our body the physical activity that it needs to stay healthy along with nourishing it with healthy nutrition and avoiding as many unprocessed foods as possible we have a good chance of avoiding these modern diseases.

Disease protection is not something found in a pill or something you get from your doctor or the medical establishment. These things are set up for our illness and could be better called the ’sickness treatment’ system as we only need them when we are sick. To avoid needing any of these things it is all up to us.

The first thing we need to have firmly in our lives to disease proof our body is a proper strength training exercise program. Our muscular system is the ‘engine room’ of our body and if kept strong all other body systems are kept strong as well. There is not enough physical activity in our modern lives anymore so intentional exercise is a non-negotiable requirement for good health.

If the brain does not receive the necessary signals from the muscles to stay strong an unavoidable downward health spiral follows. The body is put into ’shutdown mode’ where chemicals whisper to the cells to decay, degenerate and die.

When the human body is allowed to weaken it becomes susceptible to disease. You only have to look around your family, friends and the community to see this happening to people well before their time.

Along with strengthening exercise comes healthy eating. This means ditching as many processed foods as possible. These so called ‘non-foods’ are laden with toxic chemicals that our body does not know how to process till it eventually becomes overwhelmed further leading to poor health.

These things do happen quite slowly over a long period of time so often it is not really evident. But if the subtle signs of health decline are ignored and allowed to continue the stage is set for one of the major health disasters that stalk the weak and unhealthy.

Many of these ‘lifestyle’ diseases can take twenty or thirty years of living a no-exercise lifestyle along with a diet of low quality food to develop but once they show themselves there is usually no cure.

So, do not wait for this to happen, get yourself started on your strength training program and keep yourself strong. Support your exercise program with a diet of at least 80 percent unprocessed foods and you will be doing everything necessary to give yourself not only length of life but quality of life – something we all wish for.

We Are Paying With Our Health For Our Easy And Convenient Lifestyles

Not so long ago strength training exercise was associated only with athletes. Certainly the world of muscle toning with intentional exercise was relatively unknown except for a group of people called ‘bodybuilders’. The world has changed in regards to our activity levels, technological advancements, changes in society and our own personal choices as we continue to strive for ‘easy, convenient and comfortable’ lifestyles. Although automation and technology make our lives effortless and allow us more leisure time a price is paid by muscular systems as fewer demands are placed on them.

Just a few generations ago farming and manufacturing involved hard physical labor and children spent their leisure time in an active manner instead of being parked virtually motionless playing video and computer games like they are today. Women were also more active cooking meals from scratch without a microwave and doing housework without the appliances we have today.

At the same time as this general decrease in activity levels food became less expensive, more abundant and more widely obtainable. It is easy to see how this combination of events has led to the epidemic of overweight people that are common in our world today.

The human body is a miracle of adaptability and is capable of altering itself in response to the load placed on it in such a way that future similar loads will be less stressful to it. And the reverse is true, it can and will adapt to having little to no demands placed on it becoming weaker, frailer, less capable and more prone to disease.

So in contrast to earlier times, when much of each day was spent doing physically demanding activities the muscular systems of men, women and children were stimulated vigorously which is what the human body is engineered for. Going out of the way to engage in muscle strengthening exercise was generally not necessary to keeps one’s strength and fitness.

Today however, unless you are very active in your job there is just no way you can get enough muscular activity to ensure optimal health and the maintenance of your functional abilities. You may have to consider giving back a little of the leisure time you have gained through mechanization and technology and take up a proper strength training program to purposely stress your muscular system.

This will make sure you keep your strength which is a vital component of your overall health. Just a couple of sessions each week is all that is needed and the benefits are wide reaching.

An increased metabolic rate (your body’s engine) means the burning of more calories will produce more energy so you will have more ‘get up and go’. Strong muscles lead to strong bones along with a stronger immune system to protect you from disease.

If you are not currently on a strength training program get yourself started. It can slow and even reverse many of the components we feel are related to the aging process. It is without question the single most effective way to improve health and lengthen life.

Proper exercise can rejuvenate your body and mind like nothing else can and the sooner you get started the sooner you can reap the multiple health benefits.

Who Is Going To Be Held Responsible For Our Own Health Destruction?

For those of us that are overweight a common impulse is to go on a diet of some sort which is an attempt to reduce calorie intake to the level of calorie usage. This is becoming more difficult given the abnormally low calorie requirements associated with our modern inactive and sedentary lifestyles.

It may account for the ninety-five percent of people who endeavor to attain a healthy body weight by dieting alone that fail to achieve this as exercise deficiency is a major factor as well.

The number of overweight people is reaching epidemic proportions afflicting two thirds of the population in developed countries. It is wrecking human health, raising the incidence of killer diseases like heart disease, cancer and diabetes along with dozens of others threatening global well-being.

Not only are we eating too much we are deprived of the vigorous movement and physical activity our bodies need to remain healthy. After all gaining fat weight is a simple equation and the result of consuming more fuel (calories) that are burned off in activity.

With the modernization of our world food has become more abundant and calorie intake has climbed. At the same time calorie intake has been rising, our activity levels have been declining. Many of us sit for up to 80 percent of the 16 hours we are awake each day and 7 out of 10 people do no intentional exercise. This number is on a near perfect parallel with the number of the population that is overweight.

Just in the last 20 years calorie intake has risen by ten percent from diets rich in fat and sugar. It has been estimated the average person in the US consumes 20 teaspoons of sugar each day, much of it in prepared foods and items like soft drinks.

It is also a sad fact that juvenile obesity has more than doubled in the last 30 years. Overweight children are at risk of the same killer diseases as overweight adults and it is predicted that children being born today have a 20-30 year lessened lifespan. Many will have crippling diseases such as diabetes by the time they are eighteen.

For those that are overweight, achieving a slim healthy body again depends of just two things, adding a proper exercise program into one’s life that contains mostly strength training exercise to give the muscles a way of burning up the excess calories. This will raise the metabolic rate (the rate the body burns fuel) and whittle away at the stored fat.

The other important factor is ditching the processed foods. This will get rid of the hidden sugar, the chemicals that increase appetite and the empty nutrient-poor low quality food items. Anything with a food label needs to go as it has a label it has been mucked around with by man.

Replace these nutritional time-bombs with natural whole foods such as a piece of grass- fed beef, an apple, a bunch of spinach, a piece of fish from the sea or free range poultry and eggs. These things don’t need food labels and if you stick to them at least 80 percent of the time losing excess weight becomes so much easier.

Metabolically we are hunter gatherers with high activity demands. All we have to do is put back what our bodies need. Our heritage says that exercise is a genetic vital commodity – if we continue to ignore that reality it will be at our peril.

Unless we make these changes in our lifestyle, systematically restore muscular movement to our lives and chuck out the low quality food, the overweight epidemic and the health decline associated with it will continue to mushroom.

Staying Strong – Vital To Healthy Aging

Not so many years ago, scientists thought that the slow but persistent muscle tissue loss that starts after the mid 20’s and continues through adulthood was an inescapable part of the aging process. You were trapped in a body increasingly made up with more body fat and less muscle tissue and there was nothing you could do about it.

We now know that this is not so, and that the main reason that a 60-year old human body looks different from a 35-year old is not just the wrinkling and sagging of the outer casing. It is what is happening to the stuffing on the inside that causes us to look older. When muscle tissue and bone mass start shrinking and shriveling posture droops and the skin sags without the cushioning affect of firm muscle beneath the skin.

Loss of muscle is the end result of years (maybe decades) of not doing enough strength maintaining activity. Our modern world has stripped it all away to make our lives ‘easy’ and more ‘comfortable’ but the price is high. When strength is siphoned away all the degenerative processes and conditions that characterize the aging process are accelerated.

Bones that the weakening muscles are attached too also become weak and brittle and more easily injured. Balance is affected and serious falls are more likely with the end result being major injuries like hip and other fractures.

Without strong muscles to support and cushion them joints that allow the bones to move also become stiff and start to hurt. All of these things conspire to stop us moving so we don’t – and become less and less active which sets us on a merry-go-round of a downward health spiral. Other body systems – everything from the heart system to the immune system grow weak from disuse leaving us exposed to greater disease risk.

The really good news is there is an antidote: halting further muscle loss and rebuilding lost muscle with proper strength training exercise. The brain needs to receive constant signals from the muscular system that strength is still needed otherwise the body is put into ’shutdown mode’.

With proper strengthening exercise, you can maintain strength, vitality and vigor throughout your entire life. You can transform your body from the inside out right down at cellular level restoring health, improving function, and preventing disease. Everything from better blood sugar regulation to the transfer of oxygen and nutrients from the blood to the body’s cells is boosted when you restore your muscular system’s strength.

Our grandparents and maybe even our parents did not have this knowledge and suffered the indignity of their health and mobility being eroded away. We are lucky in that so much new research has uncovered information and we will never have to suffer those indignities. That is as long as we each take it upon ourselves to stay strong and fit with intentional proper exercise to protect our future.

Proper Exercise Offers Many Youth Enhancing Benefits For Women

For most women staying youthful is right up there on the priority list. Money is spent on hairstyle, cosmetics, clothes and appearance, maybe even surgery or other procedures if they think it is worth it. But the most important place to stay youthful is right down at cellular level when oxygen and nutrient transfer takes place from the bloodstream.

As 70 percent of the population does not do enough strength building and maintaining exercise particularly as they get older their body composition (muscle/fat ratio) is on a negative slide downwards. It is easy to lose strength and muscle tissue if you do not challenge them on a regular basis and they will atrophy (shrivel) at the rate of about a half-pound per year.

Your weight on the bathroom scales may not change but the composition of your body will change – you will have more body fat and less precious muscle tissue. It is hard to look youthful without good muscle tone. Toned muscle is firm and taut and clings to the body but flab just sags and hangs and makes you look much older.

Many women use the excuse that strength training exercise is going to make them get big muscles but nothing could be further from the truth. It will not happen now…not anytime soon…not ever. The only big bit will be the fat layer that will continue to make you get larger and heavier. The muscle is the little firm bit underneath that bulky fat layer and is your very best friend as that is what is going to help you become slim again.

The core of your metabolism and the thing that governs the rate your body burns fuel (calories) is your muscle tissue. Toned and strong means lots of energy is being used and you will maintain a healthy weight. If your muscles are allowed to become weak and flabby means you cannot use up the energy from the food you eat and guess what happens to it? Yes, it is piled up on your tummy, your hips and thighs and anywhere else your body wants to store it.

Proper strength training exercise is the only type of exercise that can reverse this situation. If you think long duration low intensity activity is going to solve your body composition problems you are going to be very disappointed. You need to directly load your muscles with adequate resistance (weight) to rebuild lost strength and to maintain it.

There are many other important health benefits for women from strength training exercise. When muscles are strengthened the bones they are attached to are strengthened as well. The metabolic rate is boosted helping you lose excess fat. Without that muscle tone your body is much slower at burning calories and more are stored.

All in all the benefits add up and the only outlay is just a couple of sessions each week with some effort put in and you will rejuvenate your entire body inside and out. This will knock years (maybe decades) off how you look and how you feel.

As We Don’t Get To Use Our Muscles Much Anymore It’s Easy To Lose Sight Of Their Importance

We tend to think of muscular strength in someone who is young. When they are described as strong chances are it is about their muscle strength. But when someone past mid-life is called strong the chances are the subject is their character. Yet people of all ages need good muscle strength – it is not something just reserved for younger people.

The health benefits are vast for both men and women. The muscular system is at the very core of the body controlling many other systems and processes. Nothing could be more important than overall body strength yet it is the first thing to be neglected as we grow older as many people think it is just not necessary to bother with intentional strengthening exercise. Nothing could be further from the truth and here are a few reasons why:

1) The condition of your muscles determines the rate your body can burn fuel (calories). If the muscles are allowed to grow weak, flabby and shrink, the metabolic rate drops and body fat accumulates. This then spoils your appearance and puts your health at risk.

2) Having strong muscles takes strain off the heart; they perform better with less oxygen which means the heart does not have to work as hard when you exert yourself. Strong muscles help circulate blood around the body as their firmness and tone squeezes blood vessels and act as auxiliary pumps. This reduces the workload on the heart.

3) Strong muscles support, cushion and protect the joints, like the knees, hips, shoulders and back from everyday wear and tear. Keeping the body’s muscles strong is important for the prevention and treatment of the crippling condition arthritis.

4) Strong muscles also mean a strong immune system as that is where its fuel (special proteins) are stored that are used for the production of ‘killer’ and white blood cells. These are needed to keep the body’s armor and defense system healthy.

5) Strong muscles make you look good. Lean toned muscles are taut and firm against the body as opposed to flab which sags and hangs. When you look good you feel good which boosts mental and emotional health as well.

6) Having strong muscles mean you live an active life which is only going to add to your overall health. Nothing drags your health down more than sedentary living, pulling you into a spiral of accelerated and premature aging.

So you can see how important strong muscles really are. If you are not already, get yourself along to your local gym or fitness center and get started on your program. Just 2-3 sessions are needed each week as this type of exercise is so effective only a little is needed. The more effort you put into your sessions the less is needed and you will give your body a boost and ‘wake-up’ cells and tissues that are degenerating from lack of use.

Time for you to hop on board and reap the multitude of health benefits men and women of all ages are enjoying around the world. Strength training exercise is accessible to everyone and all it takes is for you to take action.

A Lack Of Proper Physical Activity Is A Big Problem For Most People

Not getting enough proper muscle building and maintaining exercise is a significant problem for most people in our inactive and sedentary modern world. Everyone would like to believe that they get enough exercise and are active enough but in reality they do not. Although we are all ‘busy’ and are sometimes rushing around that is not moving our body like it has been designed to be moved.

We often get up, get in the car, spend all day at work at a desk, get back in the car to drive home then sit for the rest of the evening watching television or at the computer before going to bed again. Up to 80 percent of the day is spent sitting in one type of chair or another. This means nearly all of the 16 odd hours we are awake is spent in a sedentary manner expending very little energy. This does not represent an active lifestyle.

Without enough activity dangerous fat builds up inside our bodies when fat burning enzymes can not do their job properly when blood circulation is slowed down. This fat wraps itself around major organs and releases toxic chemicals in the most susceptible part of the human body -the abdomen where all of our working ‘machinery’ is located.

You can be at normal body weight and have this harmful fat deep inside your body and you will not even know that you have it. But if you do not do enough activity you will likely have it and the massive health risks it brings for killer diseases like heart disease, cancer and diabetes.

Often people do not exercise as they find it hard to do and hard to stick too. It is a shame that many uninformed people say to just find ’something you enjoy’ that exercise ’should be fun’. Well, let me tell you exercise is not fun. It is the physical ‘work’ our bodies have been designed to do.

After being told by so many people that is should be fun it is a shock to find this is incorrect and that is does require some effort. How could this be any other way if it is to challenge the body and bring strength and fitness results? Our bodies are capable of great physical strength and our modern life siphons it away and leaves us weak, drained and sick and we now think this is normal and the way it should be.

Well it is not the way it should be and we can stop the chronic disease that 50 percent of us are inflicted with and have great physical, mental and emotional health along with more energy, vitality and vigor so we can make the very most of our life.

All it takes is 2-3 sessions each week of proper exercise – strength training is perfect as it gives the muscles the direct controlled loading that they need to stay strong and therefore healthy. The muscles need to work against adequate resistance so long duration low intensity activity does not build the strength in the muscles that is needed for health and well-being.

Yet this is what people are told to do just go ‘for a walk’ type of activity. Well if you rely on these types of activity they are not going to cut it when it comes to body strength. Most people are busy and do not have time for ineffective long duration activity and this is where strength training exercise will give you the ‘most bang for your buck’.

Get yourself started on your program and within a few weeks and beyond you will enjoy the many benefits that come when your body and its cells are ‘woken up’ and given a boost deep down at cellular level. Once you experience this you will want it forever.

Your Actions Are What Create Motivation To Exercise

You know you need to exercise more and eat better. Too much excess fat weight, too little muscle tone, too much flab and too little energy and you know all of these things can be fixed with proper exercise and healthy eating.

Just making that decision and deciding that you need to exercise more will make you feel good….almost like you have already got started. But following through is where the problem begins when the motivation has all but disappeared. If that has happened to you before may it is time to concentrate on the ‘motivation’ issue as deciding you need to exercise it important, but, it is what you do to follow through that really matters most.

Just what is this ‘motivation’ thing? It seems we all want it and most of us would like more of it. The perfect exercise program or the latest eating plan is of no use in the absence of the drive to take action. It is through motivation that gets things done not only at the beginning but after that as well.

You may be asking yourself “Am I going to stick to my exercise program?” We all know that starting a new exercise program is the hard part but turning it into permanence in your life is really just a matter of sorting out what is important to you – your priorities.

Have a think about it – do you want to be overweight or slim and trim, do you want to have lots of energy or continue to drag yourself through the day, do you want your body to be strong and firm or weak and flabby and do you want to be free of disease or risk something very nasty that could not only wreck your life but shorten it as well?

If you want the good bits then that is where your motivation will come from. These things will drive you to keep going. Being healthy and strong and disease proofing your body has to be right at the top of your priority list of important things in your life.

These things have a huge impact on the quality of your life – your zest and ‘get-up-and-go’ increases, you feel so much better than you would without proper exercise, and you will look so much better as well.

Motivation is not something that just comes to you, it is something deep inside that propels you forward and it changes from day to day. What got you going yesterday may not do the job today. You will always be working at making it better and stronger and like anything in life with practice it gets better.

No one else can do it for you and you would not want them too anyway. It is something very precious and no amount of money in the world can buy it. When you can draw on your own reservoir of motivation – that thought, goal, feeling, reward or incentive that gets you moving you will get to understand what really makes you tick. You will begin to realize that your actions are what generate that very thing you have been searching for – motivation.

Your Body Strength Plays A Huge Role In Your Health

After decades of searching for the elusive Fountain of Youth and being unsuccessful we can be assured we have the next best thing….proper strengthening exercise. This form of activity can give new found energy to the fatigued and lethargic, strength to the weakened, restore health to the diseased and bring youthfulness to seniors that they would never have believed possible.

Sounds a bit like magic and it is, literally turning back the clock on whatever age we are at and no matter how many candles we have on our birthday cake. When you work your muscular system with strengthening exercise you are ‘waking up’ your body where it really matters – right down deep at cellular level activating ‘youth’ hormones.

Our bodies have been designed to be active – very active and function best when challenged on a regular basis to keep strong. Sitting around like most of do in our modern world for up to 80 percent of the 16 odd hours we are awake does absolutely nothing to keep strong. In fact we age at an accelerated rate and become more susceptible to the killer diseases that stalk us and conspire to shorten our lives.

You can tell if you are heading down this track when you experience your strength being siphoned from you, energy levels are low, skin is sagging and drooping, fat is building up around the mid-section, you feel ‘down’ or even depressed, you have pain and stiffness in your joints and you simply feel yourself fading, like your very life force is slipping away.

It does not have to be like this but, you will have to take some action and help yourself which is something that you may not want to hear. The only way to slow the aging process and have more control about the way you look, the way you feel and function is to keep your body strong, toned and healthy.

Strength training exercise is the solution to renewed vigor, energy and vitality. Without a doubt no other type of exercise or activity has more of an impact on overall body strength and optimum health. It will enhance you from the inside out strengthening every cell, tissue and organ improving everything from your posture, to how your heart functions and how well your immune system protects you from disease.

Just a couple of sessions each week are needed as a little of this type of exercise done properly goes a long way. This is such a small price to pay for the return you will get. If you are new to this type of exercise spend a few bucks and get someone to help you get started so you are doing things safely and effectively. Your local gym or fitness center will offer this as part of becoming a member.

It will be the best money you could ever spend on yourself. Think of it as an investment in both your present and future well-being and no one cares more about this than you do. You do don’t you?

To Make The Most Of Life You Need To Feel And Be ‘well’

Somehow we have this idea that taking care of our health should be free and someone else’s responsibility and that our doctor, insurance company or someone is there to fix us if we become ill. But our health cannot be left to our doctor or any other entity to look after as this is not their job.

The facts are – our doctor only looks after our illnesses. We are told to have regular screening tests and checks but they are to see if we have signs of early disease in the hope that modern medicine can catch them in time and fix them. So really, when our doctor says we are well all this really means is that things have not got so bad that they can find any actual disease symptoms.

It takes many years, sometime decades for a disease to become obvious. As health slowly deteriorates and the life force is sucked away many people just put up with the symptoms. Aches, pains, overweight, sluggish, unhappy, tired and literally dragging oneself through the day does not make for a life full of abundant energy, vitality and happiness.

There is a growing army of people in a poor state of health in our modern inactive and sedentary world with its low quality food and no exercise lifestyles. They are the ‘walking wounded” or the ‘walking unwell’. These people are sick enough that they cannot function adequately but are not sick enough to be confined to a bed.

The diseases that cause this are called ‘lifestyle’ diseases which we give ourselves. Heart disease, cancer, diabetes and dozens of others wait in the wings picking off our fathers, mothers and other family members at epidemic rates. In fact the predictions are that 400 million people will be taken by preventable disease in the next decade.

Yet we do little about it, we continue on our merry way eating low quality food that cannot sustain and nourish us and deny our body the vigorous muscular activity that we must have to remain well and healthy. It is only with this movement that ‘growth and repair’ hormones are released that protect us from disease.

The human body must have an ongoing supply of new, stronger and healthier cells to replace old, worn out damaged ones. Without proper exercise we shunt our body into ’shut down’ mode as the brain receives messages that tell it that this human has done its work and now it is time to phase it out and make room for others at the trough of life.

It is up to you whether you want to go down this path or not. For most they want to squeeze every bit of enjoyment and potential out of our one and only shot at life as we know it. But to make that happen you have to obey the laws of nature.

These laws are very simple – quality unprocessed foods and proper strength building and maintaining exercise. Just a couple of sessions each week is all that is needed to crank up the ‘youth’ hormones along with ditching the chemically laden foods in pretty boxes and packets. Replace these foods with ‘whole’ foods such as a tomato, a carrot, a piece of grass fed beef or fish from the ocean. Things that do not have a food label as they have not been messed around with by man.

Yes it sounds like work, but you have a choice. Either do this work or be prepared for a life cut short preceded by years of pain, disability and ill health if you are unlucky enough to be one out of every two people on this planet that end up with a nasty disease.

Just these two strategies can turn things around even if health has deteriorated. Lost muscle tissue can be rebuilt; and an abused and over-stretched immune system can be restored to protect health. The human body has the ability to heal itself but it needs the right tools to do this. Proper nutrition and proper exercise are those tools.
